Ancient Wisdom:

In Chinese the word for "crisis" is the same word as the one for "opportunity'! I don't know about you, but this makes life in my world full of great potential opportunity! Of course, actualizing that potential is a different story.
My kids have a finished basement pretty much all to themselves. There is TV, music, computers, video games, exercise equipment, stuff, stuff and more stuff. And the absolute mess that can develop is breaks records. I confess, sometimes I have resorted to bribery to get the chaos picked up!
A couple of weeks ago I took the Chinese approach, "If you guys will pick up this room, I will take you all out for an ice cream!" I was trying to make a crisis into an opportunity.
It failed, and I only got frustrated. So I tried the guilt approach. "You know, I work very hard to provide for this family, and it hurts me deeply (spoken with an extra tone of sincerity) to see you guys abuse me and your mother in this way!" They looked at me with blank faces like, "Poor man. He really doesn't understand much at all!"

A Mother's touch...

The crisis grew. And since I don't speak much Chinese, I was left to seek opportunity elsewhere. I looked desperately. When I was confident that I had found the answer, I didn't hesitate at all. I turned to my wife and cried, "Help!"
Fortunately for me, she is an expert on child rearing. She gathered the children up and clearly explained to them how, "We would have been killed if we ever left our rooms in such a state!"
They didn't budge. So she took it to the next level. "OK. None of you kids are allowed down there until that room gets picked up!"
A week went by. One by one they went down there and picked up what each one considered to be their stuff.
The place was still a disaster. I heard echoes of, "Its not mine! I didn't do it! And, I've done my share!" So I began to wonder about these Chinese and their ancient wisdom. I figure everyone's allowed to make a mistake.

The heart of a child...

Then opportunity knocked. Our youngest, and still most innocent amongst us, asked Mommy if she could help clean up the playroom. Together they worked for hours, picking up, organizing, cleaning and throwing away. They did it with love and pride. When the other children saw what was happening, they joined in. When I came home from work my youngest had me close my eyes and led me downstairs to present their accomplishment. With such a sweet innocence she melted my heart when she said, "Look Daddy! Look what we all did! Do you like it?"
Talk about crisis and opportunity! I bent down on both knees and thanked her with a big quiet hug. "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you," was all I could say!
" Do you really like it, she begged?"
I heard myself whisper back to her, "Its like heaven down here!"

Many years ago we had a magnet on our refrigerator that said, "And lest ye have the heart of a child, ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven."

Are going to work with mother nature or against her?

Did you ever eat and drink so much that you made yourself sick? And you swear to holy heaven that you'll never do it again?
Have you ever felt the same way about the all you can eat buffet of healthcare information that is out there? It can be just as huge and just as sickening! Yet its part of nearly every TV and radio news program, every magazine and newspaper too. We are constantly being attacked with super charged information, sales pitches, gimmicks, magic pills, gadgets and the latest greatest new and improved "you just can't live without it" garbage. It seems that we Americans have an insatiable appetite for this stuff.
If we are in pain, we want to get out of it. If we aren't in pain, we want to be as healthy as possible to avoid ever getting in it. Most everyone is struggling to lose weight, shape up, look their best and succeed at whatever challenges face them. The truth is, most of us are pretty consumed with our own health.
There is an enormous amount of money fueling this fire. And where there is money, there is likely to be greed. There is a highly developed art designed to help you consume all of this. Still, you want to do as much as you can to help yourself be as healthy as possible.

Its up to you!

I have a suggestion: first make a choice in your life. Either try to learn about all the pieces that make up the infinite wonder of your body and how you can force all those pieces to work together as you think they should; or try to learn how to support the Infinite Wisdom and Supreme Power that created you and most importantly heals you, all by itself. There really two different ways to look at all this.
There is a mechanistic approach to health and a vitalistic approach. That, dear friends, is the real difference between medicine and chiropractic. You can learn to work with Mother Nature or against Her. Its your choice.
Now look...its not an all or nothing situation here. There is a place for both. But it is a matter of emphasis. You see, there are times when lives are saved by drugs, surgery or emergency medical intervention. Yet there also is a magnificent and all too often ignored power that really is running your entire body as well as this whole natural creation; and its a lot smarter than all of the doctors and universities put together. There is also a well developed and rapidly growing science learning about how to tap into and release the incredible natural healing powers that lay dormant with us all.

Don't be tricked!

The public is finding this out too. A recent CNBC poll asked 2584 Americans, "Would you seek the care of a doctor of chiropractic for your low back pain?" A whopping 72% said, "Yes!" Similar results occur for headaches, upper back, neck, shoulder, arm, wrist, pelvic leg and generalized muscular pain pain. In fact, there are over 1200 different coded conditions that chiropractic is known to help! Across the country the number of chiropractic treatments per capita has doubled in the last twenty years! Yes...people are waking up!
Maybe you should too! Sometimes it seems like common sense is uncommon...but time and truth walk hand in hand. Mother Nature first, drugs second and surgery last. And don't ever ever let yourself be tricked or scared into ignoring your body's amazing God given natural healing powers.

The Outrageous Truth About Car Accident Injuries!

Every year about 60,000 Americans are slaughtered on our nation's roadways. Hundreds of thousands more are seriously injured. Driving is pretty dangerous! You would think that by now, with our huge national healthcare research and delivery systems, proper diagnosis and treatment should be something we could all take for granted.
Sorry! No way. The shocking reality is that in proportion to the size of the problem, very little is really done to help those who suffer in pain from the injuries that are most commonly associated with car accidents.
There are medical specialists for just about every other body system or common affliction. But if you ask any primary care provider what ailments they most dislike treating, they will tell you that "soft tissue musculoskeletal injuries" like whiplash or strain-sprain injuries are among their least favorites.
The most common complaints people endure are neck and back pain, headaches, muscle spasms, numbness and tingling, sleep disturbances, irritability, memory problems, poor concentration, and fatigue.
The story goes something like this: first an accident happens. Maybe you saw it coming, maybe not. Everyone is emotionally overwhelmed. The driver or drivers and all passengers may or may not go to an emergency room. If they do, then they are evaluated. Sometimes they are x-rayed. If bones are broken or if they are bleeding, then they are treated. If not, they are sent home with the advice to take pain pills as necessary and call their doctor if they need to. The problem is that few soft tissue injuries are visible on xray. Far too many are left undiagnosed and therefore untreated.
Insurance companies are very familiar with this scenario. They know that most often, as the days and weeks pass, you will most likely get worse before you get better...maybe much worse! That is why they try to settle as quickly as possible. Yet countless studies prove that symptoms from motor vehicle accident soft tissue injuries become most painful 10 to 14 days after they occur. The long term consequences are also serious because your body maladapts to the damage done. That is a very different thing than true healing. As inflammation sets in, arthritis can develop. Drugs not only hide the pain from you, but they also block your body's healing responses. This makes matters much worse. Quality of life issues emerge as do days missed from work. It can get very messy indeed. You can't blame the insurance companies for trying to settle quickly before all those complications emerge. They are after all in business to make money for their stockholders.
For those of you old enough to remember, there actually was a time when cars were manufactured without airbags. The major US auto makers fought this safety device tooth and nail. Much research was done in an attempt to prove how unnecessary they were. Imagine their disappointment when the studies confirmed that in a 5 MPH impact, a person will receive ligaments injury. In a 10 MPH impact, that same person will receive ligamentous tearing.
Thus even the mildest of car accidents should be taken seriously. Every person involved in one should be evaluated by a trained specialist. Since scar tissue starts to develop in less than 2 days after the injury occurs, the sooner the evaluation is performed, the better. It is also in your best interests to document your injuries early on so if they worsen over time, you stand a better chance of receiving the insurance coverage you need to help you heal from those injuries.
If you or someone close to you has been in an auto accident, get checked by a trained professional. Get your injuries evaluated, documented, and treated. There is in fact so much that can be done.
